BALINESE COLUMNS
14.036,00 €
Last set of antique Balinese columns.
Description
These pieces were acquired during a trip to the island of Sumatra that we made before the huge Indian tsunami. In 2004, this natural catastrophe devastated hundreds of villages in Southeast Asia and with them a great part of their culture. We were lucky to come across a collector of these pieces of the seventeenth century, belonging to the doors of a temple in the region of Bukittinggi. They are two worn green columns made of petrified wood and a carved stone base.
We feel really fortunate to have been able to contemplate these pieces in their place of origin and even more to be able to have them. Nowadays, replicas are made from unusual original pieces like these. This set is the last of the three that we were able to bring. The state of preservation of these pieces is really amazing. The part of the shaft and the capitol are made of wood in a state of petrification. Its worn green color is preserved intact as in the origin. The base is a carved stone which appearance denotes the passage of time.
Unique pieces that require good conditions for their conservation. Sold together.
